What Happens at the Rehearsal Dinner?
The rehearsal dinner is a great time for the two families and bridal party to mingle and get to know each other before the big day. It is also a great time to present the attendants with their gifts. The bridal party may also present their gifts to the bride and groom at this time.
Toasts should proceed during the course of the dinner instead of after because that can make the night drag on and on. The groom’s parents or whoever is hosting the rehearsal dinner, as the host may choose to make a toast. The toast can be something as simple as wishing the bride and groom a wonderful life together, expressing their happiness of the two families joining together, welcoming the bride into their family, and making an official start to the festivities.
The best man and maid of honor may also make a toast to the bride and groom on behalf of the bridal party. The toasts can consist of anything from telling jokes, to well wishing, to telling stories of when they were younger, to thank-yous.
Lastly the groom should make a toast on behalf of the bride and himself (the bride may also choose to make a toast) thanking everyone for their help and contribution, and expressing their happiness for each other. The groom should not forget to toast his bride to be.
Most importantly, remember that the toasts don’t have to be lengthy or anything out of the ordinary. If you get jitters just thinking about standing up in front of a crowd, then keep it simple and short. You don’t need to make a speech out of it.
