Wedding Florist Tips

Start selecting your florist at least two to three months before your wedding.

Find out if the florist you are planning to go with has fresh flowers. Check their fridge on a couple different days to see if their flowers are always fresh. Ask when their flowers are delivered.

Tell the florist your budget and see how willing they are to work with your budget.

When choosing your florist ask yourself the following questions; Does this florists show interest in my ideas?Does the florist have time for me or do they always seem like they have something else more important waiting? Does the florist offer tips and ideas? How many wedding’s has s/he done before? Does the florist have a portfolio of previous arrangements they’ve done for weddings? Do they have any references from previous brides? Don’t be afraid to call them.

Pay attention to the way the flower shop is decorated. Does the style appeal to you?

When choosing your wedding flowers, having ones that are in season will ensure that the flowers are readily available. Seasonal flowers can also be cheaper since they don’t have to be pre-ordered ahead of time. Out of season flowers are also more expensive limiting the amount of flowers you can buy if you are on budget.

Let your florist know all the details of your wedding. Tell them where your ceremony and reception will be. If the ceremony or reception are outdoors, the florist will most likely suggest flowers that will hold up well to weather conditions. Rain, heat, sun, and wind are all factors that need to be taken into consideration.

Show your florist a picture of your dress as well as the bridesmaids dresses. Show photos of the ceremony and reception site. The more visual information you can provide the more likely they will be able to understand your vision match the colors.

Use photos of the type of flowers, colors, and arrangements that you like. By just explaining your idea, the florist may imagine something different.

Keeping your bouquets simple will make them more attractive and may save you money.

Keep in mind the fragrance of your flowers. You don’t want the scent to be overwhelming. Check the ventilation system and see if any of your closest family or guests has allergies.

The flower arrangements used for the ceremony can also be used as decoration at your reception.

Bridesmaid bouquets are usually smaller than that of the bride. They can be of slightly different accent colors for a visually stimulating effect.

You may even choose to have the bridesmaids carry a single stem, such as an orchid, sunflower, or lily.

When deciding whether the mothers, grandmothers, or other special people will have wrist or pin-on corsages, consider what they would prefer. They may not want to put holes in their new dress lapels.

Choose your bouquet style according to your dress and body type. If your dress will be elaborate and ruffled, a delicate bouquet will get lost against it. For a small bride, a huge and cascading bouquet will overshadow her.

Make sure your florists have early access to the ceremony and reception sites so they can have ample time to set up.

Ask how many other weddings they have on the same day as yours. Does the florist have enough staff to make sure everything at your wedding will be done with precision and on time?

Flowers are not the only way to decorate your reception hall. Try incorporating fruits such as lemons, limes, and grapes. Balloons and ribbons are also great decorating ideas.
