When you finally feel you’ve found your dress, don’t purchase it right away. Since many dresses have to be custom made there may be a non-return policy.
If it appears that the dress had it’s tag cut out, ask which designer made that dress. If the sales person is reluctant to tell you, it may be because they are not authorized to carry that designer. In this case there is no guarantee that your dress will arrive on time or whether it will ever arrive.
When you get your receipt make sure that the following is on it; manufacturer/designer, color ordered, size, full price, date dress will be in, deposit amount paid or required, special order alterations and price, alterations estimate with specific alterations listed, future balances required, and cancellation or refund policies.

Renting a dress is a great option for brides that will not likely keep their dress after the wedding. If you are a person that just doesn’t develop an attachment to clothes, then this may be your way. Plus, you don’t need to worry about dry cleaning or storing the dress after the wedding. The down side is that the selection may be limited compared to a warehouse or bridal salon.

When you choose your seamstress, do a small trial run dress to make sure the seamstress is able to create and recreate the dress that you describe or show her from a photo. Observe the comfort level, trust, communication, and her sewing abilities. Are you able to leave her to do her job knowing she will do it right or do you have to stand over her shoulder telling her constantly what you need her to do. Many seamstresses will make your dress in muslin first so you can see what it will look like.
If your dress has a detailed back, don’t get a veil that will cover it.
Your undergarments are as important as your dress since they offer support and some lingerie can even have a slimming effect where needed.
After you purchase your shoes, it’s a good idea to wear them around the house to increase their comfort level. The last thing you need is to put brand new shoes on the day of your wedding when you’ll have to wear them all day.
Some brides buy white sneakers and decorate them with bows and ribbons and trade their formal high heel shoes in for the sneakers after the ceremony to increase comfort level.
