Wedding Gowns, Bridesmaids Dresses, and Tuxedo Tips

Not all bridesmaids have to have the same exact dresses.

Clean your dress after the wedding and preserve it to maintain the quality and appearance. The dress should be wrapped in white acid-free tissue paper or unbleached muslin and placed in an acid-free or pH-neutral box. The gown will then need to be stored out of heat, moisture, heat, and cold. Don’t store it in attics or basements.

DRESSING THE GROOM AND GROOMSMEN

The groom’s suit should match the formality of your dress and the wedding. A tuxedo is for the most formal and evening wedding. A black or grey cutaway coat is most appropriate for daytime weddings held before 6p.m.

Some tuxedo rental stores offer a free tuxedo rental for the groom when all the groomsmen rent at the same store.

To help the groom stand out from his groomsmen, he can wear a different boutonniere, tie color, or vest color if they are wearing tuxedos.

It is good for all the groomsmen to attend the fitting so the rental shop can record everyone’s measurements. If a groomsman cannot attend on account of being out of town, have him attend a local menswear shop to have his measurements taken.

Fit and comfort is really important when you and your groomsmen choose your tuxes or suits. Try to sit down, twist and turn, and raise your arms. Make sure you feel comfortable because you will be wearing it for the bigger part of your special day.

Here are a couple things to look for to get the perfect fit:

Your jacket should fit comfortably around your neck and shoulders and should fasten easily. Sit in it. If the buttons look like they are about to pop, this may not be your fit.
Check to make sure the sleeves are not too short. If they rise above your wrists, they are too short.
The shirt should also fit comfortably around the neck and shoulders. When the buttons are done up, move your arms around. The buttons should not seem like they are about to pop at the chest. The sleeves should stick out from under the suit sleeves about a quarter to half of an inch.
The vest should button up comfortably and line up with the jacket buttons. The bottom should slightly cover the trouser waistband. Getting a full back vest is nicer since when you decide to take your jacket off at the reception you won’t be showing a strap and the back of your shirt.
The trousers should button up with ease and feel comfortable when you sit. Many trousers have adjustable waist bands, if not, you may use suspenders. The hem should reach the shoe tops.

DRESSING THE BRIDESMAIDS

When choosing the bridesmaids dresses, don’t base your decisions solely on the “wear-again” factor. Most bridesmaid dresses are never worn again since they are associated with the wedding they wore them to. That’s not a bad thing; they are just considered a souvenir.
