Wedding Photographer and Videographer Tips

Don't make a mistake choosing the wrong photographer for your special day.

There are hundreds of photographers and videographers to choose from for your wedding. The wedding photography and videography market is one of the busiest and largest. The secret is in finding the right one.

Before you choose your photographer, decide what style of photography you are interested in. Do you want photojournalistic or traditional photos?

A photojournalistic style captures the guests and the action without anyone really noticing the photographer. The photographer just mingles with the crowd and catches the mood and fun of the party. They create a photo story of your wedding day using different angles and perspective. The downside is that you may not get the posed pictures you would so love to have with your closest friends because the photographer is busy taking shots guests on the dance floor.

The traditional style is more classical. The photographer uses a medium-format camera, which allows for sharper portraits and larger print sizes. The pictures don’t necessarily have to be plain and boring but they will be closer to perfect since the photographer will have time to adjust your hair, pose, background, and get the perfect lighting. The downside of the traditional photography is that it is a lot more time consuming.

The best way can be to get a photographer that can do a bit of both really well.

Black and white photos are more emotional and dramatic, but you may also like to get color photos to capture the beautiful flowers and colors of your décor. If you prefer to have more color photos, let the photographer know so he won’t make most photos black and white.

If you are looking for a photojournalistic style photographer, know how to differentiate between a wanna be and an actual photojournalistic style photographer. When looking through their albums, take a look at the peoples eyes, posed photographers will have the subjects looking at the camera. For a photojournalistic photographer the subjects will be more oblivious and not even notice the photographer.

The internet is a great place to search for photographers. Many photographers will have sample pictures posted on their sites.

Even if you find a photographer with some amazing pictures, make an appointment and see his albums because the samples on his site will most likely be some of the best ones he’s done.

A good practice is to ask to see an album from just one wedding. You want to be able to see how many good photos the photographer can do at one wedding.

Beware that some photo and video studios have more than one photographer. Ask to see only the photographer’s work that will attend your wedding. Meet the photographer before you decide to choose one.

Some photographers and videographers have assistants to help carry and set up equipment. Make sure you know so you can have one more meal prepared for them.
